When do you keep your child at home?
A child care centre is not the best place for a sick child. The close proximity of many children, such as exists in Long Day Care Centres, increases the risk of cross infections, not only between children but to staff members as well.
Keep your child home if he/she has or displays symptoms of:
- Acute Conjunctivitis
- Acute Tonsillitis
- Chicken Pox
- Diarrhoea (24 hours after last loose stool)
- Diphtheria
- Excessive discharge from ears, eyes or nose
- Giardia - until Diarrhoea ceases
- Head Lice (nits)
- Hepatitis
- Impetigo
- Measles or Mumps
- Productive Cough or Whooping Cough
- Ringworm
- Rubella (German Measles)
- Scabies (the "itch")
- Temperature
- Vomiting (24 hours after last event)
If in doubt please contact the Centre first. The Centre refers to National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines for exclusion .
In the event of an outbreak of a Vaccine preventable illness all children who are not vaccinated, homoeopathically vaccinated or have incomplete vaccination records will be excluded from the Centre. In the case where vaccination records are not up to date families will have 24 hours to provide current records or their child will be treated as not vaccinated.
If you take your child to the Doctor please get a certificate to support claims for absences and also to ensure that your child is well enough to return to the Centre.
